The Miami Heat have officially struck a significant deal with local independent station WPLG to serve as the broadcast home for the team's local telecasts during the 2026-27 NBA season. This move marks a pivotal shift for the Heat, who were previously under contract with the now-defunct FanDuel Sports Networks. WPLG, owned by Berkshire Hathaway, will provide an over-the-air platform for fans to catch all the action, including key matchups and player performances. This agreement positions the Miami Heat as the second team to transition to over-the-air broadcasts, following the Detroit Pistons. The deal reportedly includes a rights fee that exceeds the typical $10 million range, although the exact amount remains undisclosed. However, it is expected to fall short of the $55 million per year that the Heat were slated to earn prior to the collapse of Main Street Sports Group. Additionally, WPLG will offer a free app, Local 10 Plus Platinum, allowing fans to stream games without a subscription. With this deal, the Miami Heat join a growing list of NBA teams moving away from cable-based regional sports networks, enhancing their reach and accessibility to fans in the market.
