The Miami Heat are making a significant shift for the 2026-27 NBA season by moving their entire regular-season local television package to free over-the-air broadcasts. This change means that fans in the Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe markets can watch all non-nationally televised Heat games on WPLG Local 10 without the need for cable or subscription services. This decision follows the conclusion of local-rights operations by FanDuel Sports Network Florida. The Heat are currently seeking a broadcast partner for Palm Beach County and other areas within their local rights region. The agreement with WPLG Local 10 is set for one season, with the NBA potentially taking control of local television agreements in the future. The broadcast team, including play-by-play announcer Eric Reid and commentator John Crotty, will remain unchanged. Unlike the Miami Marlins, who opted for a streaming and cable-tier package, the Heat are following a model similar to the Florida Panthers, who transitioned to over-the-air broadcasts last season. Currently, the reach of the Heat's broadcasts into Palm Beach will depend on the Local 10 signal, with efforts underway to expand coverage in South Florida. The deal is expected to evolve, particularly in the Miami-Dade market, where WPLG is not available on several major streaming platforms. Last season, Local 10 simulcasted 12 Heat games and plans to continue this trend along with additional programming for the upcoming season. Michael McCullough, the Heat's executive vice president, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the increased viewership and the benefits of local reach. Fans will also have access to Heat games through Local 10's new streaming platform, LOCAL 10 Plus Platinum, available on various devices. Bert Medina, WPLG President & CEO, stated that they are thrilled to carry a complete season of Miami Heat basketball, promising an exciting 2026-27 season for fans.
